I've been interested in how and why things work for as long as I can remember, taking stuff apart and sort of putting it back together. Building lots of technic Lego, making a door bell and alarm system to keep my sisters out my bedroom and helping Dad whenever possible!
I raced go-karts for quite a few years as a youngster, always helping (in my mind) Dad prepare the kart at race meetings. I played lots of sport as a kid too; various land, water and ice based activities. The Cub Scouts, Outdoor Pursuit clubs, lots of camping and the Combined Cadet Force have all taught me things I probably rely on today but don't realise where they came from.
Cars and mechanical things lead to a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Bath and a placement at Cooper-Avon Tyres. Here I got involved in the murky world of computers and problem solving. After finishing my degree, I moved onto business and process improvement - a different use for my inquisitive mind - and currently work in IT as a Business Analyst/Product Owner.
I still really enjoy the mechanical/physical world of engineering, so now I fill my spare time renovating houses, maintaining and building cars and bikes.
